CYBERPUNK JACKET
ARTIST STATEMENT
The Cyberpunk Jacket was inspired by the aesthetics and themes of cyberpunk. Often portrayed in media as a combat filled violent futuristic dystopia, the jacket is a representation of what a person living in such a universe would wear and interact with. My design of this wearable focuses on three main aspects: fashion, aesthetics and movement. It was important to me that the resulting product would stand on it’s own as an actual wearable item, so that it would be a more welcoming experience for those uninterested in wearable electronics.
The jacket utilizes the accelerometer on the circuit playground express to detect different hand movements and positions, and play a corresponding light animation on the two programmable LED strips. The emphasis on a human movement driven light interaction was too highlight the fact that this was not simply a circuit, it was a circuit on a body. The integration of movements not only makes wearing the jacket more interactive, it also gives it a stronger reason to be a wearable circuit instead of any other physical computing project.
