The Anxiety Jacket

By: Tyler Jorge

DESCRIPTION

This jacket is intended to be used as an anxiety monitoring wearable, illuminating the LEDs based on your live heart-rate. The jacket features 35 individual Neopixel LEDs wired in series, which are connected to a heartbeat sensor that is placed upon the users fingertip. The pulse data is sent to an Arduino Uno located in the left breast pocket, which flashes the LEDs based on your current heartrate. The Arduino is outfitted with a battery and charger to allow for maximum portability.

CONCEPT

This project started with the initial idea being a wearable that one could use in a nightlife setting — at a bar or club. This jacket would measure your heartrate in much the same way as the final product does, but would require everyone in the crowd to have one, so as to sync up everyone’s heartrate with the music. This concept evolved over the weeks as stress and anxiety built up with finals, and thus, the Anxiety Jacket was created in its stead.
